"We Talk About...": Hardik Reveals Discussion With Dhoni. It's Not Cricket

Ahead of India's first T20I against New Zealand in Ranchi on Friday, the Hardik Pandya-led side met with former captain MS Dhoni, who resides in the Jharkhand capital. Dhoni visited the India dressing room on Thursday and interacted with the players ahead of the first T20 against New Zealand on Friday. Dhoni first interacted with T20 skipper Hardik Pandya and then was seen giving tips to young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan. In a short video posted by the BCCI, titled, "Look who came visiting at training today in Ranchi - the great @msdhoni", the former captain was also seen interacting with opener Shubman Gill, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as well as the support staff.

Later, Hardik, speaking at a press conference, revealed that when he meets with the great captain, he does not talk about the game.

"Mahi bhai is here which is good as we get to meet him. We can get out of the hotel also (to meet him). Otherwise, the way we have played in the last one month, it has just been hotel to hotel," he said at a press conference.

"And when we meet we try to talk about life and keep cricket away. When we played together I learnt a lot from him. I have squeezed a lot out of him (knowledge)... there is not much left," said Hardik.

India, after making a clean sweep of the ODI series against the Kiwis, will hope to continue their good form in the shortest format with Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill set to open in the first game. This will be India's first T20 outing after they defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 earlier this month.

Gill has only played three T20Is -- the youngster made his debut against Sri Lanka -- and will open with Kishan following his superb performance in the ODI series. The 23-year-old scored a double-ton as well as a century as India took the series 3-0.

EY To Fire 380 Workers, Cut 40 Partners To Improve Profitability: Report

EY said it plans to cut jobs and eliminate costs in Germany after its failure to detect suspected fraud at Wirecard AG, the electronic payments company that collapsed in 2020, shook confidence in the auditor.

The management board of EY Germany has decided to make “various structural changes subject to co-determination,” the company said in response to questions from Bloomberg. “The focus is on personnel measures and reductions of non-personnel costs.”

The Financial Times reported earlier that EY Germany plans to cut 40 partners and fire 380 staff to improve profitability.

EY has lost several mandates in the wake of Wirecard's collapse, which left investors with billions of euros of losses. The payments company imploded after saying cash amounting to a quarter of its balance sheet probably never existed. The scandal exposed shortcomings at auditors, regulators and banks who failed to catch Germany's biggest corporate fraud in decades.

German companies tend to consult worker representatives when eliminating jobs for reasons other than individual conduct. EY Germany has started talks with the relevant body and “the planned adjustments should preferably take place in form of voluntary solutions under a mutual understanding,” the firm said.

“The planned measures are intended to put EY Germany in the strongest possible position for future success,” the company said.

Hyderabad University Students Screen BBC Series On PM, 'The Kashmir Files'

The Students Federation of India (SFI) on Thursday organised the screening of the controversial BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) here even as the RSS' student wing, ABVP showed the controversial film 'The Kashmir Files', on the campus.

The Fraternity Movement in UoH campus, a students' group, had earlier organised the screening of the BBC documentary "India: The Modi Question" on January 21, at the varsity campus without prior notice or permission, prompting the University authorities to seek a report on the incident for taking necessary action.

The screening of the documentary "India: The Modi Question", the access to which was recently blocked by the Centre on social media platforms, was earlier announced by the SFI at the university campus.

"Glimpses from the successful screening of the documentary 'India: The Modi Question' organised by SFI HCU on the Republic Day following the call of SFI CEC. More than 400 students turned up for the screening, rejecting the false propaganda and the attempts of ABVP to create unrest and the administration to disrupt the screening of the documentary. SFI-HCU salutes the student community who have stood for freedom of expression and campus democracy," a social media post by SFI HCU said, tagging the photos.

UoH, is also known as Hyderabad Central University (HCU).

Countering it, the students of ABVP HCU organised the screening of 'The Kashmir Files,' on the university campus today.

Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the Bollywood film depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir following systematic killings of people from the community by Pakistan-backed terrorists.

UoH Registrar Devesh Nigam in a statement said the Dean-Students' Welfare had counselled the student groups and issued an appeal not to do any screening of films in view of the law and order issue, maintaining peace and tranquility in campus and forthcoming end semester exams starting from next week.

However, students decided to go ahead with their programme schedule.

"We have come to know that one group held the screening in one of the hostels," he said adding the campus is peaceful.

Earlier, a group of ABVP members staged a protest in front of the main gate of the varsity and raised slogans against the University administration alleging that the security personnel did not allow them to enter the varsity premises along with the screening equipment.

They held a sit-in and sought to know from the University administration how permission was granted to the SFI to screen the BBC documentary and said they will not allow its screening.

"The University Administration tried to stop the screening of the movie 'The Kashmir Files'. When ABVP Karyakartas were bringing the projector from the main gate, University Security manhandled our Karyakartas. There was another attempt by the administration to seize our projector. We protested at the main gate and we have arranged everything for the screening. We appeal to the student community to join us in large numbers at Ambedkar Chowk (North ShopCom)," a social media post by the ABVP HCU said.

The Union government had last week directed social media platforms such as Twitter and YouTube to block links to the documentary "India: The Modi Question". The Ministry of External Affairs has trashed the documentary as a "propaganda piece" that lacks objectivity and reflects a colonial mindset.

The two-part documentary claims it investigated certain aspects relating to the 2002 Gujarat riots when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief minister of the state.

"Why Shouldn't It Be Me?": Kamal Haasan On Expecting Ticket From Congress

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan, who has extended support to Congress-DMK alliance candidate EVKS Elangovan in the Erode East bypolls, on Wednesday said why he should not expect an MP ticket from Congress.

Kamal Haasan on Wednesday said that his party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) will lend support to the Congress candidate in the Erode East bye-election.

"Why shouldn't it be me? For national interest, we have taken this decision," said the MNM chief when asked about whether he was expecting to get an MP seat from Congress in future.

Pertinent to mention, Kamal Haasan joined Rahul Gandhi in Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi last month.

The development comes after Elangovan met Mr Haasan in his Alwarpet office on January 23 and sought his support for the bypolls. After having a discussion with MNM executive members, Kamal Haasan announced the decision to support the Congress candidate.

Addressing mediapersons, Kamal Haasan said, "The party executive members unanimously decided to support the Congress-DMK alliance candidate in Erode East bypolls. This is the decision of the present."

Asked if the support would continue for the 2024 general election, the MNM chief said, "This is the only decision. It is for this Erode East bye-election and it is early to say about the 2024 general election as still, one year time is there for that."

"I called it a moment of national importance. When it comes to national importance you have to rub out even party ideology. People become primary in that. In this, we are against the monoculture of making everybody. I truly believe India's plurality makes it unique," Mr Haasan responded when asked about his past criticism of Congress and DMK.

The MNM chief however stressed that his move does not mean he has compromised his fight against corruption.

"This is the battle against larger cause wherein I am willing to sacrifice little differences. We will come back to battle again. That does not mean I will not raise my voice against corruption. It does not mean if something happens I will keep quiet. I am not a party man. I am party to a battle. My party is Makkal Needhi Maiam," he added.

The Congress on Sunday declared former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) chief EVKS Elangovan as the party's candidate for the February 27 bypolls to the Erode (East) assembly constituency.

The announcement came as a surprise as Elangovan stated on Saturday that he would not contest the bypolls but sought the ticket for his son Sanjay Sampath.

Elangovan was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004 and served as Union minister of state for textiles. He was TNCC president from 2014 to 2017. He was elected to the Sathyamangalam assembly constituency in the year 1985.

He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Theni constituency and lost to AIADMK's P Ravindranath Kumar.

Last week, the Election Commission announced a bypoll to the Erode (East) constituency in Tamil Nadu on February 27. The counting of votes will be done on March 2. The filing of nominations would start on January 31 and end on February 7.
