Watch: Tiger Chases Away Indian Gaur, Internet Calls It "Rare Sighting"

The laws of nature are almost always based on the theory of survival of the fittest. And there is nobody better than animals who illustrate the same. On Sunday, Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer Surender Mehra shared a video of a wild chase between a tiger and an Indian gaur. In the clip, the tiger can be seen running behind the Indian gaur and scaring it away.

"Just a trial run-chase. ? A tiger trying to chase down an Indian Gaur. DYK that there is NO Bison found in India," Mr Mehra wrote in the caption of the post.

Watch the video below:

The tiger did not pounce on its prey but its only motive was to chase the gaur away. Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Supriya Sahu also shared the same video on Twitter with the caption, "Survival in the wild is challenging for both the Prey and the Predator video".

The clip was initially shared by Wild Orissa on the micro-blogging site. The location where it was shot is not known.

3 Dead, 9 Injured After Man Sets Co-Passenger On Fire In Kerala Train: Cops

Three persons, including a one-year-old child and a woman, were found dead on the tracks near the Elathur railway station here, hours after a man allegedly set afire a co-passenger and injured eight others on board an express train.

A senior police official from the district told PTI that the bodies of a woman, a child and a man were recovered from the tracks late Sunday night.

The three were missing from the train after the fire incident on Sunday, he added.

At around 9.45 pm, when the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train reached the Korapuzha railway bridge here after crossing Kozhikode city, an unidentified man poured an inflammable liquid on a co-passenger and set him on a fire resulting in burn injuries to at least eight persons, police said.

The man escaped soon after the incident, while the injured were shifted to hospitals after passengers pulled the emergency chain.

When the train reached Kannur, a few passengers complained that a woman and a child were missing after the incident.

"A man, who was injured, kept looking for a woman and a child. We found footwear and a mobile phone of that woman," a passenger told the media at Kannur.

Soon after the news of the missing persons came out, the city police inspected the tracks and found three bodies, including the woman and the child and a mid-aged man.

Police suspect they fell off the train or attempted to deboard after seeing the fire.

"The woman and the child who went missing were found dead on the tracks. There is one unidentified body of a male. We have found CCTV visuals of the suspect. Investigation is on," a senior police official of the district said.

Sources said the woman was the child's aunt.

A total of nine persons have been admitted to various hospitals, including the Kozhikode Medical College, for treatment Further details are awaited.

MI Make History, Use This Cricketer As 1st Overseas 'Impact Player' In IPL

Jason Behrendorff etched his name in the history books as the Australian fast bowler became the first overseas "Impact Player" in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Behrendorff replaced Suryakumar Yadav for Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru on Sunday. MI started the game with three overseas players - Tim David, Cameron Green and Jofra Archer. As a result, they were able to use the Aussie cricketer as their "Impact Player". In all the cases till now, teams played four overseas cricketers in their playing XI and used an Indian player as the 'Impact Player'.

Here's a look at all the major rule changes for IPL 2023 –

Playing XIs After Toss: The 16th edition of the league would now see the playing XIs being named after the toss. Earlier, the trend was that the captains of both teams give their team sheets to the match referee before the toss. This would not happen anymore.

Impact Player: The 'Impact Player' rule would now see the teams being allowed to substitute a player into the playing XI at any point in the game. The substitute player can bat, bowl and field but would not be able to lead the team as captain.

DRS For Wide, No-Balls: The IPL 2023 season would also see DRS calls being made for wides and no-balls. The players would be allowed to review wide-ball and no-ball calls by the on-field umpires. It is a welcome move, considering the controversies that had erupted in the past few seasons.

Unfair Movement: Wicket-keepers can now be penalised for making 'unfair movements' behind the stumps. If a wicketkeeper shuffles before the batter hits the ball, it would be considered an 'unfair movement'.

Penalty For Slow Over-Rates: Slow over-rates by teams will now warrant a penalty. The 20-over quota has to be finished by a team within 90 minutes. If that doesn't happen, an extra player would need to be placed inside the 30-yard circle over every over bowled beyond the time limit.

US Health Body Warns Of Deadly Marburg Virus After Outbreak In Africa

Marburg virus, which causes infection as deadly as Ebola, has been spreading like a wildfire in Africa. Now the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has urged all travellers going to Guinea and Tanzania to take prevention to avoid catching the fatal virus. Furthermore, the health body is also sending personnel to help halt the spread of the virus.

The Marburg virus is an infectious illness with a high mortality rate and epidemic potential, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases will be sent by the CDC to respond to the outbreaks in Tanzania and Guinea, the organisation said.

Equatorial Guinea first reported the virus in February and since then the WHO has recorded nine confirmed cases and 20 additional probable cases, all of which have died.

According to WHO, Marburg virus disease is a highly virulent disease that causes haemorrhagic fever, with a fatality ratio of up to 88 per cent. It is part of the filovirus family that also includes the Ebola virus, which has caused havoc in several previous outbreaks in Africa. The natural host of the Marburg virus is the African fruit bat, which carries the virus but does not fall sick from it.

Bats and other infected animals can transmit the Marburg virus. High fever, bleeding both internally and externally, and excruciating headaches are some of the symptoms of the viral illness.

After being infected, the Marburg virus can spread to another person by coming into direct contact (through cuts in the skin or ruptured mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs, or other bodily fluids of an infected person, as well as by coming into contact with contaminated surfaces and materials (like bedding and clothing).

Marburg has no known cure or vaccine, but according to the WHO, early candidate vaccines as well as blood products, immune therapies and drug therapies are being studied as possible treatments.

Google's AI Chatbot Bard Fails To Answer Basic US College Exam Questions: Report

Google's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Bard has been making headlines since its release. Alphabet lost $100 billion in market value after its new chatbot shared inaccurate information in a promotional video at a company event in early February. As per a report in Fortune, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of the tech company, seems relaxed about how far the company's artificial intelligence models need to advance. He said in a letter to the entire staff that Bard is still in its early development: "As more people start to use Bard and test its capabilities, they'll surprise us. Things will go wrong." Bard is now being tested by the general public, whereas before it was primarily being used by Google employees.

Fortune recently tested the AI chatbot's knowledge ahead of the upcoming SATs, a standardised test which is widely used for college admissions in the United States. The exam mainly tests skills including reading, writing and mathematics.

However, the outlet noted that the once they logged in, a message appeared, "Bard will not always get it right. Bard may give inaccurate or inappropriate responses. When in doubt, use the 'Google it' button to check Bard's responses. Bard will get better with your feedback. Please rate responses and flag anything that may be offensive or unsafe."

Fortune obtained sample SAT maths questions from internet study materials and discovered that Bard answered anywhere between 50 per cent and 75 per cent of them incorrectly-even when multiple-choice solutions were offered. When the same question was posed again, it provided answers that were even not multiple-choice options.

When Bard was launched, it was tasked with answering several questions, one of which was how to explain to a nine-year-old what the James Webb Space Telescope has found. Despite NASA's confirmation that the Very Large Telescope in Chile, a ground-based array, obtained the first image of an exoplanet in 2004 and identified it as such in 2005, Bard responded that the telescope got the "very first pictures of a planet outside of our own solar system."

Furthermore, Bard's first written language test with Fortune came back with around 30 per cent correct answers, often needing to be asked the questions twice for it to understand.

Even when the answer was wrong, "Bard's tone is confident" as it frequently framed responses as "The correct answer is"-which is a common feature of large language models, as per the outlet.

In reading tests, Bard fared better than it did in maths, getting about half the answers right.

All in all, Bard scored 1200 points, a score that would get a student into the likes of Howard University, San Diego State University and Michigan State University.

A Google spokesperson told Fortune "Bard is experimental, and some of the responses may be inaccurate, so double-check information in Bard's responses. With your feedback, Bard is getting better every day. Before Bard launched publicly, thousands of testers were involved to provide feedback to help Bard improve its quality, safety, and accuracy.

"Accelerating people's ideas with generative A.I. is truly exciting, but it's still early days, and Bard is an experiment. While Bard has built-in safety controls and clear mechanisms for feedback in line with our A.I. Principles, be aware that it may display inaccurate information."
